Desperdício Alimentar: Do prato ao prado

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

This informative webinar, organized by the Polytechnic University of Coimbra (PUC), aims to raise awareness and educate participants about food waste, addressing its impact on nutrition, the environment, and the circular economy. With sessions throughout the morning, the initiative will cover topics such as maximizing nutritional value from food, the social work of ReFood in redirecting food surplus to families in need, the environmental impact of food waste, and selective collection of bio-waste, showcasing this collection process within the municipality of Coimbra. The action, aligned with the goals of the European Week for Waste Reduction, promotes a sustainable future through responsible and conscious management of food resources.

This activity also aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1, which seeks to eradicate poverty, and SDG 2, which promotes food security and adequate nutrition. Additionally, it supports SDG 3, focused on health and well-being, as food waste has direct impacts on environmental and human health. In the context of SDG 12, the webinar encourages responsible consumption and production, while SDG 13 addresses climate action by highlighting how reducing food waste can mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Finally, SDG 15 is promoted by addressing the protection of terrestrial ecosystems, as effective bio-waste management contributes to the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity.

To further enhance outreach, this activity will be complemented by a series of nine radio spots aired on Rádio Regional do Centro, spread over the nine days of the campaign. Each spot will be broadcast five times daily, ensuring consistent exposure and reinforcing the message of responsible and sustainable food waste management. This extended radio presence aims to engage a broader audience beyond the academic community, fostering greater awareness and action within the local population.
