Waste Food Reduction Activity – Ghajnsielem Thursday 20th November at 13:00-16:00 at Ghajnsielem Local Council Hall
The Ghajnsielem Local Council will be organising an informative Waste Food Reductoin Activity by having a cooking lesson/demonstration of how to cook meals with leftovers whilst giving further creative ideas on how to reduce food waste and make the best of it.
By means of this session we will be holding these workshops to encourage people by being creative and effective to reduce food waste:
- Cooking Demonstration: Show participants how to properly store, prepare, and use leftovers to avoid waste through a cooking session.
- Food Label Reading Workshops: Teach people how to understand food labels, expiration dates, and “use-by” dates.
- Community Gardens: Encourage residents to grow their own food, reducing reliance on store-bought produce that might go to waste.
- Food Banks and Pantries: Support local food banks and pantries by donating food or volunteering your time.
- Meal Planning: Create weekly meal plans to avoid buying excess food.
- Proper Storage: Learn how to store food correctly to extend its shelf life.
- Leftover Challenges: Encourage families and individuals to use up leftovers creatively.
- Food Waste Cooking Contests: Organize cooking competitions using only leftover ingredients. The best recipe will win a voucher
- Employee Education: Provide training to employees on food waste prevention and proper food handling.
- Food Donation Programs: Partner with local food banks and charities to donate surplus food.
- Giving free Organic refuse bags: Free Organic bags will be distribute to households
- Compost making lesson: Informative session re compost making.
By implementing these activities, we will be helping to raise awareness about food waste and encourage individuals and communities to take action to reduce it.
